There are several restaurants in Kolonia, but most people say the best restaurant is at the Village. (see Food)

What is the best restaurant in town?

Is air-conditioning needed?

Pohnpei diving is some of the best ithere is. There aren't many places that have pristine coral reefs and such a multitude of large and small fish. The Village Tours regularly schedules diving and Nan Madol tours. (see Diving, Dive Packages and Nan Madol)

Where are the bungalows, and what are they like?

Where is the Village?

Taxis are plentiful, and are just a telephone call away. The taxi might be shared with others. The current price to Kolonia is about $5 per person. Negotiate the price BEFORE you get in a taxi.

Shopping

Because of the plane schedule, shopping is sometimes done on the morning of departure. You're welcome to ride along when the van leaves at 9:30, every day but Sunday. A taxi is available to bring you back.

What about the diving ?

There are NO SNAKES on Pohnpei. An occasional local spider or friendly gecko may be seen in the bungalows. But don't worry, they're afraid of you and won't let you get close. Although the maids spray the rooms daily, you may want to use the repellant that you'll find in each room and at the bar.

Bugs and snakes

The thatch roof, the waterbed and the ceiling fan keep the bungalows cool and comfortable. The screens let the tropical breezes in so that you don't get that musty smell that comes from a closed up room. (see Bungalows)

Pohnpei is the coolest island in Micronesia, but this is the tropics, and it gets humid sometimes. The daytime temperature occasionally reaches 90 deg F; but at night is usually a cool 75 deg F.

The best way to get to Nan Madol is on the Village boat tour. This is an all-day tour where you snorkel with the mantas, swim in one of the islands nicest waterfalls, eat lunch on a sandy beach, and visit Nan Madol. If the tide is right, kayaking at Nan Madol is an extra treat. (see Nan Madol and Things to do)

How do you get to Nan Madol?

The bungalows are separate from the Long House. Each bungalow has two queen size waterbeds, and a futon can be put on the floor. Each bed has its own net (mostly for the romance), and its own lamp. The maids turn down the beds at night. (see Bungalows)

The Village has 20 bungalows near the Long House: 17 single and 3 duplex units - each with two queen size waterbeds. Reservations should be made as early as possible. (see Rates)

The bungalows are in three areas - Sunrise, Sokehs, and the Point. Sunrise is the lowest cost and has views of the Awak bay, Sokehs is medium priced and has lagoon views, and the Point is the quietest area and has the best views. (see Rates)

The Village is one of a kind; built on a hill from mangrove pole with roofs made of thatch. It won an award from the US Congress as a good example of how things ought to be.

It's a quiet, natural sort of place among bread-fruit and banana trees on a point of land that juts out into the lagoon, away from the noisy hustle and bustle of Kolonia. (see Home and Maps.)

The Village is on Pohnpei in Micronesia in the western Pacific, north of the Equator at 7N:158W. The hotel overlooks the north lagoon, with several islands in front and the barrier reef beyond.
