The wave begins in cold weather storms in Siberia and Alaska. This barrel wave breaks in the reef passes, and can be up to 12-14 feet or higher.

The wave gets to Pohnpei from late October until May. A boat and a well qualified boat driver can be had at either Pohnpei Surf Club, and at the Village.
