There are no seasons in Micronesia; it's summer all year round. Temperatures range from 75F to 90F (24C to 32C)

The last three months of the year has the least visitors, but some of the best weather. The trade winds begin in early December and continue until May.

Tides are higher and there is less wind in the last quarter, so kayaking through Nan Madol and the mangrove channels is much easier. Bring reef walkers or old tennis shoes for Nan Madol and waterfall trips, or for hiking in the jungle.

Pohnpei is very near the equator, and the tropical sun may cause sunbur.n. A waterproof SPF 15, or higher, is recommended.

The currency in Micronesia is the US dollar. There is only one ATM machine on island. Credit cards are accepted at the Village.

Rental cars are about $45-$50 US per day, insurance extra. Taxi fare to/from Kolonia is about $4.00 one way per person.

A dive certificate is required.

Your lap-top computer is very welcome, and the WiFi is free. A Mac computer is available in the office. Telephone and fax services are at the front desk. Only GSM-900 cell phones work on the island, but rental cell phones are available at FSM TeleCom.

There is a gift shop behind the front desk that sells t-shirts, medicines and handmade jewelry.

Carry-on luggage should contain what you'll need if your bags are misplaced.

Although Pohnpeian is the local language, English is understood and spoken by almost everyone.

Laundry brought to the front desk in the morning, will be washed, folded, and on your bed in the afternoon.

Electricity is 120 volts, 60 herz. Cameras, lights, and computers can be charged in the room.

There are NO SNAKES on Pohnpei.

Although tipping is not expected, if the service is excellent it's always welcome.

The geckos and spiders in the bungalows may be scary at first, but they eat the roaches and mosquitos and are very harmless.

Ask about required travel documents when you purchase your ticket. Make sure you know of the passport regulations.
